Where is Son Bou?

Son Bou is located on the southern coast of Menorca, in the municipality of Alaior. It's one of the most well-equipped tourist areas on the island, ideal for those seeking a combination of relaxation, nature, and services.

Beach characteristics

Son Bou is Menorca's longest beach: over 2.5 km of fine, light-colored sand, with a width of about 50 meters. It is flanked by Cap de ses Penyes to the east and Punta Rodona to the west. Its waters are clear and shallow, perfect for swimming or simply relaxing.

Off the coast stands the Escull de sa Galera , a rocky islet that further enhances the landscape. The dunes that line the beach protect the local ecosystem and are perfectly preserved.

Ideal for families

Son Bou is perfect for children. The beach has a gentle slope, allowing for safe entry into the water, and has a play area and water activities. It has also been awarded the Blue Flag , guaranteeing water quality, safety, and adequate services.

Beach services

  • Access adapted for people with reduced mobility
  • Public showers and toilets
  • Gastronomic corner with bars and restaurants
  • Rental of sun loungers, umbrellas, canoes, pedal boats and boats

⚠️ Remember to respect the lifeguards' instructions and the meaning of the flags.

El Prat de Son Bou: a natural treasure

Behind the beach lies the Prat de Son Bou , a protected wetland area of approximately 80 hectares. This wetland is a habitat for many waterfowl and an ideal spot for birdwatching . Access is regulated to preserve the environment.

The early Christian basilica

At the eastern end of the settlement are the remains of a 5th-century Early Christian basilica . It was a three-nave church with a vestibule, portico, and a small cemetery. Although it was destroyed by fire in the 18th century, its ruins can still be visited today.

Atalis, the virgin cove

To the west of Son Bou, a walk along the shore leads to Atalis , a quiet, unspoiled cove with no services, popular with naturists . From here, you can connect with the Camí de Cavalls to Sant Tomàs or Prat de Son Bou.

In addition to swimming and sunbathing, there are many activities to enjoy in this area:

  • Snorkel in crystal-clear waters
